Seven Uses for Salt Water

There are many reasons why I love salt water. The most important reason is that I grew up in Florida surrounded by it. I love being at the beach listening to the waves crashing on the shore. I love being in the salt water and feeling the buoyancy. I love the smell and the taste of the ocean. The ocean is my favorite.

There is a reason that Earth is about 95% water. And guess what – most of that is salt water. It’s great for you. When I was a kid I always knew that if I had a cut on my leg, a scrape on my arm or anything on my body that just hurt or didn’t feel right it would be healed (or at least much better) after an afternoon at the beach.

Although I now live over 1,000 miles away from the ocean, I still use salt water to help cure ailments. But that’s not all it’s good for. Here is a list of some great uses you’ll get out of a simple saltwater solution.

1. Heal sores, scrapes and cuts. This is especially great for any mouth sores that you may have. Before going to a doctor or dentist, try a salt water rinse after every meal. It’s helped me enormously, and could help you too.

 2. Curl Your Hair. We all know that beach-y waves are a go-to for women in the Summer months. But, what if you don’t live near the ocean? Make your own salt water solution to spritz on your wet hair to get the desired look!

 3. Natural Anti-Freeze for Windshields and Windows. Salt lowers the freezing temperature of water, which means that it would have to be extremely cold for it to freeze {if you live in the Midwest, you know what those temperatures feel like}. Mix a salt water solution that’s high in salt to spray on your windows and car windshield. Experts say that you can do this ahead of time, but I would just keep it in your car and spritz if it’s iced over.

 4. Removing Baked-On Food. We’ve all been there. We have a pan with food that’s stuck and just won’t come off. Soak your pan in salt water over night and the food should lift right off the next day.

 5. Clean Your Coffee Maker. Fill your percolator with a saltwater mixture and run it like you would normally to clean it {without coffee of course!}. This should clean it and make your coffee taste more fresh.

 6. Make Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs Easier. I don’t know about you, but I love hard boiled eggs – I just hate peeling them! Adding a teaspoon of salt to your water before placing your eggs in will make peeling them after they’re boiled a cinch.

 7. Clean Your Veggies. I love to eat salad. Kale salad, spinach salad, romaine lettuce salad. When rinsing your leafy greens, use a small amount of salt in your water. It will draw off the dirt making your life a little bit easier!

There is absolutely one very important thing that you should never do with salt water and that is drink it. Salt water will dehydrate you very quickly. Don’t do it!
