My Favorite Kitchen Gadgets

I have a confession. I love the kitchen section at Bed Bath and Beyond. It’s almost as fun as the shoe department at the mall. Kitchen gadgets fascinate me, but not all are necessary. Do you really need an egg slicer? No. Is it awesome? Yes. I’ve been spending a lot more time in the kitchen and I decided I should make a list of all of my favorite kitchen gadgets that I think are worth it and that I use on a regular basis.

Here we go:

1. Rubber Spatula – This is an easy one. I use my rubber spatula all the time. It’s meant to be used in baking to scrape all of the excess badder off of the bowl, but I use it to sautee vegetables too because it doesn’t scrape my non-stick pans.

2. Immersion Blender – Although I don’t use this that often, when I do need to use it, it’s amazing. I love that I don’t have to take out the blender or the food processor to make my cauliflower mashed or cauliflower soup. It’s convenient, easy to clean and easy to store too. I highly recommend having one.

3. KitchenAid Stand Mixer – This one is an expensive gadget. No, it’s not necessary to have one.  A hand-held mixer will do the job, but this makes baking so much easier. We’ve had ours for years and I recently started using it almost every week or two. I strive to make homemade treats for my fiance rather than having to buy cookies and cake. The Kitchen-Aid makes it so much easier. There are also so many attachments available for it. I’ve got my eye on the meat grinder and the ice cream maker attachments.

4. Ceramic Knife – For a long time, I was using a 5 inch chef’s knife that I bought at Publix. It was fine. Then when I moved to Illinois, I bought a bigger, sharper one and used that one for 5 years. Then, last year, after being annoyed with our home cutlery, my fiance bought my a pink ceramic knife for my birthday. It looks like a toy, but let me tell you, it’s the sharpest knife I’ve ever used in my life. It is super sharp and will cut through anything. Be careful if you are not used to sharp knives and always do the “bear claw” when cutting things. Be aware of your fingers!

5. Clear Storage Bins – This isn’t necessarily a kitchen gadget, but it comes in so handy for organizing the pantry and cabinets. We have one for all loose snacks like protein bars, one for popcorn and oatmeal packets, one for baking supplies like chocolate, one for storing all cookie cutters and Kitchen-Aid attachements and one for all of our Keurig K-cups. Then I have the stand up kind for flour, sugar, rice and cereal. It’s amazing what air tight containers can do for the freshness and organization of your food. I like these and these {though I got mine at Dollar Tree and they work fine} and also have these.

6. Keurig Coffee Maker – I got this for Christmas and I LOVE it. I didn’t think I would use it so much, but it’s so quick and versatile. You can make hot chocolate, coffee, decaf, tea. You can also dispense hot water if you need it {I like to use this for when I want to have tea from a tea bag}. It’s just amazing and takes less than 30 seconds to dispense your drink. Yea.

7. Mandolin – I love chips. Especially sweet potato chips. I also love to make zucchini spaghetti and zucchini lasagna. I couldn’t do any of that properly before I got a mandolin {another Christmas present from my honeybunny}. I strongly suggest that if you get a mandolin, you also get a steel glove. It is very, very, very easy to cut yourself on one of these and a steel glove will protect against that.

Do you have a kitchen gadget that you love? Leave me a comment! I’d love to hear about it!
