How to Cook the Perfect Steak

If you didn’t know, my fiance is a chef. I used to make foods one way, and throughout the years he’s taught me ways to make our food better. Often times, this means more steps are involved, but it’s worth it in the end.

Steak was never my strong suit. I avoided making it because I just didn’t know the proper way to do it and I didn’t want to mess up steak {which tends to be rather expensive}. Then our local grocery store was having a sale on Buy 1 Get 1 Free steaks and I decided it was time to learn how to cook those suckers.

My fiance taught me the trick and now I’m going to share it with you.

How to Cook the Perfect Steak

What you’ll need:

Steak {ribeye or sirloin will work best for this method}

Stainless steel pan {though a regular non-stick one will work fine too}

3-4 cloves of garlic

2-3 tbsp of butter

1/2 tablespoon of olive oil

cookie sheet with a cooling rack placed in it

salt and pepper

1. Pre-heat your oven to 300 degrees

2. Prepare your pan by turning the heat to medium high and placing your olive oil in it to start getting hot. You want your steak to sear on the outside which means that your pan has to be very hot.

3. Season your steak. You can use steak seasoning if you want, but we find that salt and pepper do the trick just fine. Make sure you season BOTH sides of your steak.

4. Peel your garlic but leave it whole

5. Using a pair of tongs, place your steak in your pan. Allow to get a nice sear on each side {about 3-4 minutes on each side, but you can check it at 2 minutes}. You are looking for your steak to be a medium brown color with dark brown around the edges.

6. Once your steak is seared, turn off the heat, place your butter in the pan along with your garlic. Tilt the pan so that all the oil, butter and garlic pool at the bottom and with a spoon, scoop the liquid and pour it on your steaks. Repeat this about 7 times, or until you feel you’ve covered your steaks enough.

7. Place your steak on your cooling rack that is on your baking sheet. Make sure to put the garlic on top of the steaks and the remaining liquid from your pan as well.

8. Place your steaks in your pre-heated oven and cook until they reach your desired temperature. We like ours about medium and it takes about 15-17 minutes. You can of course, cook yours a little longer if you want it more well-done or a little less if you want it rare to medium-rare.

This is a great method to cook your steaks. They turn out so tasty and juicy that you’ll never miss eating steak a restaurant or from the grill. The best part is that the process is pretty simple. The majority of the time it takes is in the oven, at which point you can work on your side dish!

If you give this a try leave me a comment and let me know! I’d love to hear how it turned out.

**  I don’t have a picture of our steak because we always devour it before I even think to snap a picture. Sorry! **
